Compagnie Britannique SOCO: Sauver le Parc National des VIrunga et les derniers gorilles de montagne.
SOCO doit sortir du Parc National des Virunga mercredi 3 octobre 2012
Le WWF appelle urgemment SOCO International, une entreprise pétrolière basée en Grande-Bretagne, à immédiatement stopper ses projets d'exploitation de pétrole dans le Parc National des Virunga.
Cet appel fait suite à des témoignages quant aux récentes tentatives de SOCO de commencer ses activités de prospection pétrolière dans le Parc. Un hélicoptère de SOCO a notamment été aperçu au-dessus du lac Edouard, provenant probablement de la ville de Kasindi à la frontière avec l'Ouganda. SOCO y aurait établi son quartier général, afin d'éviter la zone occupée par les différents groupes rebelles du côté congolais.
Parc des Virunga : Soco accusée d'avoir commandité l'arrestation d'un conservateur de l'ICCN
L'association «Objectif brousse» a accusé vendredi 27 septembre 2013 l'entreprise pétrolière Soco d'avoir commandité l'arrestation d'un conservateur de l'Institut congolais de conservation de la nature (ICCN). Selon le président de cette association, le conservateur Rodrigue Katembo Mugaruka a été arrêté pour avoir empêché des agents de Soco d'implanter, sans l'autorisation de l'ICCN, une antenne dans le parc des Virunga, dans le Nord-Kivu. De son côté, l'entreprise incriminée a nié toute implication dans cette arrestation.
