President Yoweri Museveni has said that despite Uganda and the African
continent being endowed with abundant natural resources, the continent
is the least developed because of lack of the necessary skills to tap
the resources and put them to good use for her people.

"Although something has been done in intellectual awakening of the
population, more needs to be done especially in skilling the
population to be able generate wealth, multiply it and preserve it for
future generations," he said.

The President was speaking during the Ntare school old boys annual
re-union during which occasion the school also cerebrated 58 years of
her existence. The President is an alumnae of Ntare school and the
patron of Ntare School old boys association.

He commended the outstanding contribution of Ntare School in the
intellectual nourishment and skilling of Ugandans since 1956 when the
school was founded thus laying a strong foundation for future
generations by intellectually nourishing them and making a formidable
input in the development of Uganda.

During the colourful ceremony, President Museveni commissioned a new
dormitory block and laid a foundation stone for the construction of a
modern sports complex at the school. He challenged the students to
continue from the foundation laid by people of his generation noting
that his generation had done their part by providing a peaceful and
conducive learning environment and also organized society better than
they found it and asked the young people to learn from them.

He appealed to the students not only to concentrate on the
intellectual work but also focus on wealth creation and
multiplication. He urged teachers to incorporate the fight against
household poverty especially through modern agro production in their
curriculum and be agents of change.

Museveni commended Ntare School for her reported excellent performance
in academics and sports and contributed 100 million shillings towards
the construction of the school's sports complex. He also thanked
Rwandan President Paulo Kagame an old boy of the school for always
identifying with Ntare School and for the different support he has
extended to the school.

In a message delivered for him by the Chief Justice of Rwanda Prof.
Sam Rugyegye, Rwandan President Paulo Kagame appreciated the role
played by Ntare School in grooming and molding the many Rwandans who
came to Ntare for their education.

He noted that it's the nurturing that most Rwandans got from Ntare
School that turned most of them into responsible citizens who have
contributed to the development of Rwanda after the country going
through a period of total destruction. He contributed 30,000 US
dollars towards the construction of the sports complex.

In his report the Head teacher Ntare school Mr. James Turyagyenda,
said that the school's educational standards had improved both in
quality and quantity with the school becoming the third best in the
country in last year's national exams.

He commended the President for his visionary leadership that
introduced UPE and USE that have seen the children of the poorest of
the poor access education. He also commended the government for the
prevailing peace in the country that has made teaching and learning
easy.

The function was also graced by Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi , several
cabinet minister as well as several government and civic leaders.
