Le Conseil de sécurité de l'ONU s'est dit vivement préoccupé par les «tensions et troubles actuels » au Burundi et a souligné le besoin urgent d'une réconciliation entre tous les Burundais pour résoudre la crise de façon «pacifique, transparente et inclusive ».
Le Burundi est en proie à une vague d'agitation depuis le 26 avril, date à laquelle le parti au pouvoir, le Conseil national pour la défense de la démocratie–forces pour la défense de la démocratie (CNDD-FDD), a décidé d'investir le Président Pierre Nkurunziza comme candidat à l'élection présidentielle qui aura lieu dans le pays le 26 juin prochain. 

Dans un communiqué de presse rendu public vendredi soir au siège de l'ONU à New York, le Conseil a appelé les parties à faire preuve de retenue, à ne pas recourir à la violence et à s'abstenir de représailles afin de résoudre la crise actuelle de manière pacifique, dans l'intérêt de la Nation.
Les membres du Conseil ont condamné les troubles violents au Burundi et ont appelé les autorités à gérer la crise dans le respect des libertés fondamentales et du droit à bénéficier d'un procès équitable.
Le Conseil des 15 membres a plaidé en faveur d'un retour rapide de l'état de droit dans le pays et du rétablissement du dialogue entre tous les Burundais afin de créer les conditions nécessaires à la tenue d'élections « pacifiques, transparentes, inclusives et crédibles ».
Les membres du Conseil de sécurité ont réaffirmé leur plein appui aux efforts déployés par l'ONU, son Envoyé spécial pour la région des Grands Lacs Said Djinnit, l'Union africaine, la Communauté d'Afrique de l'Est et la Conférence internationale sur la région des Grands Lacs.
Le Conseil a par ailleurs exprimé son « intention de répondre aux actes de violence qui menacent la paix et la sécurité au Burundi ».

The United States want a  bloody regime change in Burundi because the President of Burundi is not telling USA that he will fight terrorism. This is what the US want to hear from the President of Burundi. The US is disappointed that the coup against Nkurunziza has failed. The USA would have been happy to see Nkurunziza being killed or removed from power no matter how many people would have been killed. This could have been the similar US policy about Rwanda when they  supported Kagame's war  that triggered the Rwandan genocide.
 
The genocide against the Hutu took place in Burundi, where more than 500,000 hutu people were killed by all different the Tutsi regimes. The USA has never supported any attempt to bring to justice the people who committed this genocide against the Hutu in Burundi.
 
President of Uganda and other dictators are supported by the US to stay on power indefinitely because they simply tell the US that they are supporting USA in fighting terrorism in Africa. Also the USA believe that it is only Museveni who can fight against  Lord's Resistance Army. Museveni has been using rebel groups that  fighting against his regime to get  USA military, financial  and political support.
 
This is why the USA has never objected against  the  decision of Museveni to stay indefinitely on power. The USA seems to have already endorsed  Kagame's plans to modify the Rwandan constitution to stay on power indefinitely.
 
We call on USA to end their double standards approaches about the leaders of the countries of the African Great Lakes Region. Their foerigh policy that is now focusing in Burundi is not credible.
 
The US is preparing war in Burundi similar to the one that led to the Rwandan genocide.
