Dr. Thomas Kigabo Rusuhuzwa est décédé au Kenya le vendredi 15 janvier 2021 (de la covid-19) à l'âge de 57 ans. Qu'il repose en paix.
Son jeune frère est également décédé en Australie le lundi 25 janvier 2021. Qu'il repose en paix.
Pour la petite histoire,
Au Collège Inyemeramihigo de Gisenyi, au début des années 1970, le plus petit du Collège avait toujours comme surnom Rugabo.
En 1969, il n'y avait qu'un seul Rugabo au Collège Inyemeramihigo de Gisenyi, le plus petit élève du Collège: NGIRABATWARE Augustin dit Rugabo (et Mbiyombiyo à Kiroji).
En 1970, NGIRABATWARE Augustin avait entre temps grandi. Et parmi les nouveaux élèves du Collège Inyemeramihigo de Gisenyi, il y en avait un qui était plus petit que lui, à savoir HATEGEKIMANA Faustin, originaire de Ruhondo en préfecture Ruhengeri, futur juriste de l'UNR (3ème cohorte des juristes de l'UNR), futur notaire.
Le 28 septembre 1971, je, Habimana Ildephonse, débarque au Collège Inyemeramihigo de Gisenyi. Je suis bien, à l'âge de 11 ans (c'était la toute première fois dans l'histoire du Collège -et sans doute la dernière - qu'un enfant de 11 ans y était admis), le plus jeune du Collège Inyemeramihigo de Gisenyi, mais le sobriquet Rugabo est attribué à quelqu'un d'autre qui, bien que plus âgé que moi, n'était pas nécessairement plus grand : RUTANGA Aloys (futur enseignant D5 à partir de l'année scolaire 1976-1977) originaire de Satinskyi en préfecture Gisenyi et, accessoirement (encore un qui n'était pas plus grand que moi, et dont la vie s'est arrêtée net en janvier 1973, car il avait une malformation cardiaque congénitale ), Laurent BARAKAGENDANA dit BARAK de Kiroji, Buruseli, Nyamyumba, en préfecture Gisenyi, au Rwanda. Grâce à ces deux-là, le sobriquet RUGABO ne me fut pas affublé. Il aurait bien pu m'être attribué car il n'est pas sûr que j'étais plus grand que RUTANGA Aloys ou que feu Laurent BARAKAGENDANA dit BARAK (1958-1973) décédé sans avoir atteint l'âge de 15 ans.
Jugez-en vous-mêmes par cette photo qui nous a été prise par le Révérend Frère Henri Piché des Frères montréalais de l'Instruction chrétienne en décembre 1972. Laurent BARAKAGENDANA dit BARAK n'y figure pas (je me demande même s'il n'était pas déjà décédé en décembre 1972 plutôt qu'en janvier 1973) mais RUTANGA Aloys y figure bien. C'est celui qui est juste assis devant moi (le plus souriant de tous ) et qui était ce jour-là dispensé de nager parce qu'il ne se sentait pas bien (et c'est la seule raison pour laquelle il n'est pas en tenue de bain). C'était lui RUGABO en titre tandis que moi, Habimana Ildephonse (le plus souriant de tous, personne ne peut me louper) étais plus connu sous le sobriquet MAJENGO ( = les immeubles ) que personne ne pouvait me disputer ( même pas NZARAMBA Danny, le jeune à l'avant-plan dont on n'aperçoit que le torse qui était pourtant bien plus de MAJENGO que moi puisque ses parents habitaient ku MAJENGO(mapya) en cellule KABUGA, secteur GISENYI, commune RUBAVU, préfecture GISENYI, au RWANDA). NZARAMBA Danny aurait dû s'appeler MAJENGO et moi, Bondynois. Il était en effet de MAJENGO, et moi de BONDE, mais tout le monde considérait que BONDE (muri Murwanirwa où je suis arrivé en mai-juin 1967) est inclus dans MAJENGO(mapya) (= les nouveaux immeubles ). NZARAMBA Danny sera par la suite ingénieur des mines formé en Roumanie.Que le Dr. Thomas Kigabo Rusuhuzwa décédé au Kenya le vendredi 15 janvier 2021 (de la covid-19) repose en paix et que son jeune frère décédé en Australie le lundi 25 janvier 2021 repose aussi en paix.

Kigabo first joined the central bank in 2007.
In 2010, the cabinet would appoint him to head a high-level taskforce on the East African Monetary Union, effectively serving as Rwanda's chief negotiator.
He is credited with playing an important role in the formulation and implementation of the national monetary policy, which has helped to keep inflation in check and strengthen the country's financial sector.
Prof. Kigabo, who was also an academic, moved to the central bank after spending years as vice-chancellor of Kigali Independent University (ULK).
He was also serving as a lecturer at University of Rwanda and Jomo Kenyatta University, teaching econometrics, monetary economics, applied mathematics and microeconomics.
He held a PhD in monetary, finance and international economics from University of Lyon, France and a Masters in applied mathematics.
Born in DR Congo, Kigabo is survived by a wife and four children.

He also played important role in negotiation of policies with different stakeholders including the International Monetary Funds and the World Bank.

Dr. Thomas Kigabo laid to rest  | It was a day of grief as relatives, friends and colleagues of late Dr. Thomas Kigabo Rusuhuzwa (former chief economist at the National Bank of Rwanda) yesterday bid the last farewell during a ceremony that took place at his home in Remera, Kicukiro district of Kigali city before laying him to rest. |
It was a day of grief as relatives, friends and colleagues of late Dr. Thomas Kigabo Rusuhuzwa (former chief economist at the National Bank of Rwanda) yesterday bid the last farewell during a ceremony that took place at his home in Remera, Kicukiro district of Kigali city before laying him to rest.
The event was held under strict COVID-19 control measures attracting a little number of mourners present physically while others attended to the ceremony virtually.
Mourners reflected on values that characterized late Dr. Kigabo and described him as a brave, dedicated, patriotic person and man of God with unconditional love to people, who always strived for the good.
The burial of Dr. Kigabo coincided with the death of his little brother who died on Monday in Australia.
Dr. Kigabo died in Kenya on 15th January 2021 where he succumbed to COVID-19. He died at the age of 57.
"He has been a kind person who supported widows, paid school fees for quite a number of orphans. He was also good preacher who instilled Christian values helpful to family members," said Dr. Kigabo's wife, Nyantore Diane.
His elder brother, Pastor Irakiza Rweribamba Isaac revealed that late Dr. Kigabo was not only a pivotal family member but also a devoted Christian who served God until his last breath.
"Kigabo was a kind person supporting orphans, widows among other vulnerable people. As relatives, he has left the legacy of good deeds that we shall take on," he said.
Pastor Sebugorore Henry, an evangelist at ADEPR Nyarugenge Parish said that Dr' Kigabo was a devoted Christian and member of executive committee who fulfilled his duties diligently.
"Despite his duties in the Government, he was a good Christian who continued to serve God through evangelization which he started at school. He had courage to love and serve God," he noted.
The Governor of the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR), John Rwangombwa revealed that they were saddened to lose a hard working person with international competencies.
"Kigabo was a pivotal person in the management of BNR who strived to take the bank to greater heights. He had international competencies, has contributed a lot to the progress of BNR and helped us in recruitment of qualified staff. We are proud for his achievements. It is difficult to carry on activities without him but it is the nature of the world. May His Soul Rest In Peace,"

Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Dr. Kigabo was the Chief Economist at BNR. He left a wife and five children.
Dr. Kigabo was also a board member of Economic Policy Research Network Rwanda (EPRN).
