[amakurunamateka.com] Re: Burundi on the brink as leader refuses to budge.

"The constitution of Burundi, which is the supreme law in the land, states that no one
would be allowed to run Burundi after two terms of 5 years each, following election "au suffrage universel". Pierre Nkurunziza became President of the transitional periode, election by the parliament, that is, not "au suffrage universel". Supporters of the President are of the view that Pierre Nkurunziza has been elected "au suffrage
universel" only once, and that he is entitled to run for a second time!", Celestin Nsengiyumva.

Does anyone, on these fora, have the Burundian Arusha Agreement?

Nkurunziza is being constantly told to respect not only the Burundian Constitution but also the Burundian Arusha Agreement.

My guess is that the Burundian Arusha Agreement might have stipulated that any transitional President ( if I'm not mistaken in Burundi there has been two transitional presidents before general elections by which Nkurunziza was elected) could be elected only once.

For instance, according the Burkina Charter, the current transitional president, will not even be allowed to run for president during the upcoming presidential elections this year.

In my opinion, transitionsl presidents should not be allowed to run in subsequent general elections and in case they do, they should be allowed to do so only once.

My hope is that all participants in the upcoming Inter-Rwandan Highly Inclusive Dialogue also known as DIRHI will consider nailing down such a clause in their conclusions. This will make sure that any presidential hopeful must think twice before presenting his/her candidacy for transitional president when the Kagame regime will be no more.

We need a charistimatic leader to help our country transition from being a prison/ killing field to being a place where anybody can grow freely, spirtually and materially.

Mr Nsengiyumva Celestin,

compassion. Nous récoltons ce que nous semons.
