US warns President Kagame of Rwanda over murdered exile

President Kagame of Rwanda faced American censure yesterday over
claims that he has had political opponents hunted down and murdered.

The United States Government said there had been a troubling
succession of "what appear to be politically motivated murders of
prominent Rwandan exiles".

In particular, it condemned the most recent killing of Patrick
Karegeya, a former Rwandan spy chief, who was found poisoned and
strangled in a Johannesburg hotel.

Mr Karegeya fled the Rwandan capital, Kigali, in 2007 after being
demoted and imprisoned. He then helped to establish the opposition
Rwanda National Congress (RNC) party, and often predicted that he
