Wife of former Rwandan spy boss breaks her silence

The wife of former Rwandan spy boss Patrick Karegeya, who was found
murdered in an upmarket Sandton Hotel last week has broken her silence
about how they lived in fear in South Africa before fleeing to the US.
Leah, her husband and their three children had lived in South Africa
after fleeing from Rwanda in 2007 after Patrick was accused of
planning to overthrow the government in his country. She now lives in
the US while her children live in Canada.
In a telephonic interview from the US, Leah told The New Age that the
family's lives had been hell since 2006 when her husband was demoted
from intelligence head to a spokesperson before being charged with
crimes against the state.
"My husband was abducted and for six months we didn't know his
whereabouts. We had to hide from government ordered hit squads and
when he returned we fled to South Africa where we lived under state
protection," she said.
The emotional widow said it was evident after the failed assassination
of her husband's close ally Gen Faustin Kayumba Nyamwasa that living
in South Africa was no longer safe.
